Adam Sandler’s ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Breaks Netflix Records with Historic U.S. Opening

Adam Sandler’s return to the golf course is making serious waves. Happy Gilmore 2, which premiered on Netflix on July 25, has debuted with 46.7 million views in just its first three days, making it the biggest U.S. opening weekend for a Netflix film ever.

The long-awaited sequel to Sandler’s 1996 comedy topped Netflix’s list of most-watched English-language movies for the week of July 21–27. It also marks the strongest opening ever for any Sandler film on the platform, a major feat given his long-standing partnership with the streaming giant.

While Netflix calculates “views” by dividing total watch hours by a film’s runtime, this metric confirms Happy Gilmore 2’s place among Sandler’s most successful releases to date, and signals continued audience enthusiasm for legacy comedy franchises.
