Key Facts
- TikTok Nearby adds a dedicated tab showing content tied to a user’s current or selected city or region
- Feature launches first in France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom, with a focus on local creators and businesses
- Location sharing is optional and limited to users 18 plus, with controls in app settings
TikTok is adding a new way to browse its platform with TikTok Nearby, a location based feed that sits alongside the main For You and Following tabs. The new view is designed to surface videos that are tied to a user’s area by topic and time, from restaurant clips and event recaps to local travel and everyday moments. Users can tap the Nearby tab on the home screen and see the name of the city or region that the feed is currently set to.
For creators and small businesses, the TikTok Nearby feed is meant to act as a discovery engine that pushes their public posts to people who are physically close or who have chosen to explore that location. Eligible content can include travel tips, food and drink spots, local attractions and services, as long as it meets TikTok’s requirements and falls within a ninety day window. People can also manually switch locations to research future trips or explore scenes from other cities.
TikTok says the feature respects age and privacy boundaries. Content from users under 18, private accounts or posts set to Friends or Only You will not appear in TikTok Nearby, and the feed is not shown to underage users. Adults can choose whether to turn on GPS based location in settings, with the app only accessing this data when in use, and they can switch it off at any time. The company frames TikTok Nearby as part of a broader move to make the app more useful in day to day life while keeping user control and transparency around location at the forefront.
