Key Facts

  • PayPal to power in-chat payments and merchant listings within ChatGPT.
  • Partnership built on the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP) for instant checkout.
  • Millions of small businesses to gain visibility through PayPal’s merchant network.

PayPal is partnering with OpenAI to make shopping inside ChatGPT as seamless as chatting. Using the new Agentic Commerce Protocol, users will be able to browse, discover, and pay for products from PayPal’s global merchant base without leaving the chat window.

The integration brings PayPal’s wallet, buyer protections, and post-purchase services directly into ChatGPT, letting consumers move from recommendation to purchase in just a few clicks. For merchants, it creates a new sales channel that automatically connects storefronts to millions of ChatGPT users.

Beyond payments, PayPal will adopt ChatGPT Enterprise and other OpenAI tools internally to enhance product development and automation across its 24,000-person workforce. The partnership represents a step toward a new era of AI-powered commerce, where conversation becomes the point of sale.
