Fresh leaks suggest Apple will unveil the iPhone 17 Air this week, a sleek new entry in the lineup that emphasizes design over battery life. At just 5.5mm thick, the iPhone 17 Air would be the thinnest iPhone yet — slimmer even than Samsung’s S25 Edge — but its reduced size means a smaller battery and only one rear camera housed in a pill-shaped bump.
The phone is said to include Apple’s new A19 chip, ProMotion support, and a 6.6-inch display. Its ultra-thin frame eliminates physical SIM card slots, making it an eSIM-only device worldwide. While eSIM is already standard in the U.S., limited carrier support abroad could affect adoption. Powering connectivity is Apple’s in-house C1 modem, known for energy efficiency but slower speeds than Qualcomm’s version in higher-end iPhone 17 models.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that the iPhone 17 Air may cost nearly as much as the iPhone 17 Pro, positioning it as a stylish niche device between the base and Pro lines. Analysts say it could pave the way for Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone, expected as early as 2026. Like the original MacBook Air, the slim form factor may not sell in huge numbers initially but could redefine Apple’s future hardware strategy.
