Key Facts

  • New Copilot upgrades include group collaboration, Google app integration, and an animated avatar called “Mico.”
  • Copilot now features long-term memory and improved reasoning across browser tabs.
  • Updates launch first in the U.S., with global rollout coming soon.

Microsoft has rolled out a major update to Copilot, its AI-powered digital assistant, adding deeper collaboration tools and cross-platform functionality to strengthen its competitive edge in the growing AI assistant market. The upgrade introduces group workspaces supporting up to 32 users, allowing teams to write, brainstorm, and edit together in real time within Microsoft apps.

The system now connects more seamlessly with Google services and Outlook, while its new “Mico” avatar uses expressions and color changes to make interactions feel more natural. Enhanced memory allows Copilot to recall user details and past conversations, offering a more personalized experience. Product manager Ella Steckler described memory as “essential for a true companion,” highlighting how it adapts to users’ workflows over time.

These updates arrive amid growing competition from rivals like OpenAI’s Atlas and Google’s AI tools. By expanding Copilot’s functionality and accessibility, Microsoft aims to make its assistant central to productivity across ecosystems—both inside and outside its own software suite.
