Apple is reportedly developing its own AI-powered “answer engine” to rival ChatGPT and reshape how Siri and Safari handle search. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the tech giant has formed a team called “Answers, Knowledge, and Information” tasked with creating a smart, web-powered question-answering tool.
This engine could be integrated into future Apple products or released as a standalone app. The company is already hiring engineers with search engine expertise to power the project. The move comes as Apple looks to reduce reliance on Google, especially following Google’s recent antitrust loss, and builds on Apple’s recent push into generative AI with the rollout of Apple Intelligence.
While Siri already offers limited ChatGPT functionality, Apple’s proprietary solution could signal a more personalized, private, and deeply integrated AI experience across its ecosystem.
