  • A viral image editing tool brought in 13 million new users in days.
  • Growth comes as Alphabet’s value hit $3.03 trillion.

Google’s Gemini app has jumped ahead of ChatGPT to become the most downloaded free app on Apple’s App Store. The surge followed the release of a popular new feature called “Nano Banana,” which lets users blend and edit photos in creative ways.

The update drew 13 million new users in just four days, pushing Gemini’s total downloads to 23 million. In all, users have uploaded more than 500 million images since launch. Google said demand grew so fast it had to set temporary limits on use.

The success of Gemini comes as Alphabet’s market value reached $3.03 trillion, making it one of only four companies to ever cross that milestone. The app’s rise shows Google gaining ground on OpenAI in the race for consumer AI.
