Israel disables Sanaa airport after Houthi missile hits near Ben Gurion

Written by Arash F, Junior Journalist at Brand Vision Insights.

Israel’s air force flattened runways and aircraft at Sanaa International Airport on Tuesday, saying it “fully disabled” Yemen’s main gateway in retaliation for a Houthi ballistic-missile strike that landed near Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion airport two days earlier. Houthi media said three civilians were killed; airport officials told Reuters three Yemenia jets and the departures hall were destroyed. The strike came less than 24 hours after Israel bombed the Red Sea port of Hodeidah, a lifeline for 80 percent of Yemen’s imports.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, already battling soaring regional tensions since the Gaza war began, warned that Israel would respond to any further attacks “seven times stronger.” The Iran-backed Houthis vowed to impose “a comprehensive aerial blockade” on Israel until fighting in Gaza ends, and threatened “the unimaginable” if Israel strikes again. UN envoy Hans Grundberg called the exchange a “grave escalation” in a region he said is “already fragile and volatile.”

Washington, which has conducted its own air campaign against the Houthis since March, said U.S. forces were not involved in Tuesday’s raid but remain in overall coordination with Israel. In a separate Oval Office meeting with Canadian PM Mark Carney, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the U.S. would halt its Yemen strikes after the rebels allegedly promised to stop harassing international shipping lanes—an assertion the Houthis have yet to confirm.
