Disney announced it will shut down the Hulu app by 2026, officially merging the platform into Disney+ as part of its new streaming strategy. While subscribers can still pay for Hulu or Disney+ separately, all Hulu content will be housed within the Disney+ app, eliminating the need for two separate platforms.
The move comes after Disney finalized its $9 billion buyout of Comcast’s remaining stake in Hulu. The company says this integration will boost user engagement, reduce subscriber churn, and increase ad revenue while improving overall operational efficiency.
Internationally, Hulu will replace the Star title on Disney+. New personalization features and a refreshed Disney+ homepage are expected in the coming months. Disney will also stop reporting individual subscriber counts for its streaming platforms, signaling a shift toward bundled performance metrics.
