Breaking Down the Basics: How to Structure a College Paper on Branding

Written by ,  at .

At the collegiate level, you’re not likely to have to talk about branding in any math or science class. The only classes where you might run into these discussions are likely marketing-centric ones.

If you’re studying marketing in college, then that’s probably your major. You might also have occasion to do so if you’ve chosen to get a business degree with a concentration in that area.

If you’re called upon to write college papers about branding, you may find yourself looking around online and making a “do my assignment for me” request to one of the entities that gives you help in this area. You may not have been aware of this, but if you Google phrases like “write a paper for me” or “create my paper for me,” then the search engine will suggest companies where you can hire professionals with backgrounds in the classes you’re taking.

Websites like Studybay are helpful in this regard because you can find individuals there who are well-versed in the subject matter you’ll be studying to attain the grades you need to pass. However, such services cost money, and maybe you don’t feel like you have any to spend at the moment. College isn’t cheap, and perhaps you’ve already taken out student loans.

In any case, it’s worth talking about how you would structure and write a paper for a collegiate-level class if branding is the subject. We’ll discuss that in the following article.

Start by Defining This Term

If you’re going to study a particular subject and write an essay about it, you should keep the following things in mind:

  • There are generally accepted best practices for how to structure collegiate-level papers
  • If you follow a circumscribed format, you have the best chance of getting a good grade
  • Brainstorming and creating an outline will always help as you get ready to write your paper

When you make your outline, it should be a foregone conclusion that you’ll start your writing by defining the term or idea you’re going to be talking about. In this case, that’s branding and what it means in the marketing space.

For those who are unaware, the term refers to how a company makes a consumer feel good about a product, service, or the entity that makes it. As a business owner, if you’re able to create a story around a brand, and it resonates with consumers, you’re already halfway to the point where you get a sale from this individual.

Your essay should start by saying that. Once you’ve defined what it is you’re going to be talking about, you can move on to more particular or specific aspects of what you’d like to discuss about it.

Continue By Explaining What Branding Can Do for a Company

Once you have covered that, you can move on to an explanation of what branding can do for those who engage in it. You can mention that:

  • Making it seem as though your brand stands for something is a way to create the personal connection that is so crucial if you want repeat business
  • Creating a lasting impression regarding what your company stands for is an invitation for someone to engage with it on a more personal level

Often, this might involve featuring an origin story of sorts for a business entity. You can find this for virtually any company if you go to the “About Us” section on their website.

The advertising campaign a company creates can also go a long way toward establishing that deeper or more meaningful connection that so frequently benefits business entities. There’s also the question of brand ambassadors. Reaching out to the right one and featuring them in a business’s ads might be part of the key to unlocking repeat business as well.

It makes sense to mention all of these things in the early stages of an explanatory text in the marketing space. You’ll also want to use academic language that would be appropriate for a piece of writing of this kind.

Go On to Explain How a Business Can Suffer If It Neglects This Area

Then, you might want to get into the question of what can happen to a company if it neglects this part of its business model. Failing to focus on brand identity can:

  • Make consumers feel like they can just as easily spend their money elsewhere
  • Make potential customers think this company doesn’t really care about them

Many for-profit entities that end up failing do so because they didn’t convey to the consumer who they were and what they stood for. Of course, what virtually any company stands for is profit, but that does not mean a clever owner won’t know how to disguise that.

That might sound a little cynical, but it is the simple truth. Part of branding’s purpose is to create a sense of warmth in a consumer toward a company, regardless of whether it’s a one-sided relationship or not.

It makes sense to talk about all of this in the paper’s middle sections. Virtually any essay that’s about the connection between branding and marketing in a more general sense should discuss these topics in detail.

Conclude By Giving Some Real-World Examples

As you get close to wrapping things up, you will probably want to give some real-world examples of how branding has helped companies to become more prominent within their niche or industry. You might mention things like:

  • How business entities use particular color schemes so that consumers will immediately recognize them
  • How marketing departments often conduct focus groups to figure out what kinds of commercials and celebrities potential customers want to see
  • How the best businesses are able to foster long-term connections, getting consumers who started buying from them as children to continue that trend into adulthood

All of these are just suggestions. Frankly, at this point in the paper, there are several different places where you might take this topic.

It is only in the early stages where pieces of writing of this nature are going to sound more alike. Once you get through the main concepts that we have discussed, you’ll have more of a chance to take the topic in what is hopefully a new and compelling direction. After all, that is what’s most likely to get you the good grade for which you were hoping.

In short, if you study papers written by others about this topic, you’re likely to see them start in very similar ways. It is when you progress to the later stages that you can expound on ideas that perhaps other students haven’t had.

While it can be difficult to come up with new ideas regarding topics like this one, one thing is undeniable. You have the best chance of impressing your professor if you stick to a traditional format, make sure your grammar, syntax, and punctuation are excellent, and if you make cogent arguments that back up your paper’s underlying thesis statement.
