New York Priest Loses Job After Sabrina Carpenter Church Video Scandal

A New York priest, Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello, has been removed after allowing popstar Sabrina Carpenter to film a provocative music video inside his church. The video, released in October 2023, showed Carpenter dancing on the altar and featured profanity on a crucifix. Church officials condemned the scenes as inappropriate and unauthorized.
An investigation uncovered more troubling issues. Gigantiello misused a church credit card for personal expenses and transferred nearly $2 million to accounts linked to a former aide of New York Mayor Eric Adams, who is under indictment for bribery and fraud. These actions violated church policies and raised serious concerns about financial mismanagement.
Bishop Robert Brennan called the findings unacceptable and removed Gigantiello from his roles. A new pastor has been assigned to lead the church and rebuild trust. The diocese is focused on moving forward and fixing the harm caused by these actions.
