LG to Shut Down Smartphone Servers by End of June — Final Updates Incoming

If you’re still using an LG smartphone, the end is officially near. LG has confirmed it will shut down its mobile software update servers on June 30, 2025, marking the final chapter of its exit from the smartphone industry. After that date, users will no longer receive software or security updates, effectively freezing the devices in their current state.
LG originally announced the closure of its smartphone division back in 2021, promising three more years of update support for existing customers. That promise is now expiring, and while LG phones will still function, users could face compatibility issues as app developers optimize for newer Android versions.
For those still hanging onto an LG device, now’s the time to consider upgrading. On the Android side, your current options include Google Pixel, Samsung, Motorola, OnePlus, and newer players like Nothing. As LG bows out for good, it’s another sign of how much the smartphone landscape has shifted—and narrowed—in recent years.
