Drake has taken legal action against Universal Music Group (UMG) and Spotify, accusing them of unfairly boosting Kendrick Lamar’s diss track Not Like Us. According to Drake, the track’s success was due to bots, influencer payments, and deals with radio stations rather than genuine popularity. He also alleges UMG worked with Spotify to promote Lamar’s song even when users searched for other artists, including Drake.
The song, which broke streaming records with over 900 million plays, includes controversial lyrics targeting Drake. His legal team claims UMG prioritized profits by making Not Like Us go viral and ignored the harm it caused Drake’s reputation. UMG denies the accusations, calling them baseless, while Spotify has not commented.
This dispute comes after a summer of heated exchanges between the two rappers, who are signed to different UMG labels. Drake’s lawyers say attempts to settle the issue privately failed, leading to the current legal filings. They accuse UMG of violating laws and suppressing Drake’s music to favor Lamar’s.
